CHRIS MORRIS AND TONYA BASKERVILLE, OWNERS
Chris has lived in Raleigh since 1980 and is almost a native. She graduated from NC State, and worked at University Payroll before taking time off to raise her twin boys. Chris resides in North Raleigh with her husband Jim and sons who are now in college. She opened Rock It Learning in 2007 with her business partner, Tonya Baskerville.
A Virginia native, Tonya moved to the Raleigh area with her husband and two children in 2005. She taught for Wake County for two years before opening Rock It Learning in 2007 with her business partner, Chris. Tonya has more than twenty years teaching experience ranging from elementary to adult education.
Chris and Tonya finalized their purchase of KidzArt in June 2013. KidzArt complements Rock It Learning in many ways - mainly children taking charge of their own learning and being hands-on. Tonya and Chris are both KidzArt Certified Instructors, and thoroughly enjoy working with the children in both after-school classes and camps. They are always impressed with the budding young artists’ creative abilities! They feel the children are truly the artists - they’re just there to guide them to their strengths!
Denise Potochnik, originally from New York, has lived in North Carolina for more than fifteen years. Currently she resides in Wake Forest with her husband Mike and their three girls: Hannah, Kaitlyn and Olivia. Denise volunteers regularly at her girls' schools and their athletic events as well as with her church youth groups. She enjoys working with children in general so coming on board with KidzArt was a natural fit. Denise did not see herself as an artist until she too experienced the KidzArt methods. Now she is thrilled to confidently instruct her students and experience the love of art with them.
Michelle Schmidt is originally from upstate New York, but has lived in Raleigh for over thirty years. She is married with two sons. Although Michelle’s degree is in Business, she believes you’re never too old to learn something new. She loves working with kids and having volunteered many hours over the years at her children's schools. Since her boys are now grown, working for KidzArt provides the perfect opportunity to spend time with kids again. She loves seeing the smiles on their faces when they realize they have created a beautiful piece of art.
